What does this fault code mean?

The climate control module (CCM) checks its own ID against the signal configuration that the central electronic module (CEM) sends on the CAN network. If the IDs do not match, or if communication with the CEM is interrupted, the fault code is set. The module then answers diagnostic commands, but normal CAN communication does not work.

    Possible causes

    • Faulty CAN configuration ID, because the module is not meant for this car (for example a used module with other software or hardware)
    • Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the module and the central electronic module (CEM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Has the climate control module recently been replaced? If so, check that it is meant for this particular car
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in all control modules; if several show communication faults, the cause is probably the wiring
    3. 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the CAN wire connectors are secure and clean
    4. 4If no other fault is found, have a workshop download new software
    5. 5Leave the CEM in place for a CAN fault unless troubleshooting shows it is faulty

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • Mist on the windows and/or the outside mirrors
    • The function button does not work
    • The passenger compartment fan does not work
    • The front seat heating does not operate
    • Infotainment functions do not work

    What the fault can affect1

    • The climate control module keeps working for a while after the key has been removed (limp-home)

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
