CEM-4A37
VOLVO
CEM-4A37 - Fuel level sensor. Short-circuit to supply voltage or open-circuit
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM keeps watching the pump side sensor in the tank. The fault is set if the connection to the sensor has a break, or if the sensor is shorted to supply voltage. The fuel level is then set to zero.
Possible causes
- An open circuit in the wire to the pump side sensor
- The sensor on the pump side is shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, unplug CEM connector D. Check that the connectors are seated and not corroded
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no break or short to supply voltage
- 3If code CEM-4A33 is also stored, use a multimeter to check that the ground wire has no break
- 4If the wires are intact, have a workshop replace the sensor, since it sits in the tank
- 5After the work, clear the code and check that the fuel gauge shows the correct level
Symptoms you may notice2
- The trip computer shows an empty tank too early
- The fuel gauge reads zero although the tank holds fuel
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
