What does this fault code mean?
The CEM checks that the malfunction indicator lamp in the instrument panel flashes on briefly at ignition-on and then goes off. If the signal is too low or missing, the code is set. The lamp then does not light.
Possible causes
- An open circuit in the wire to the MIL lamp
- The cable to the malfunction indicator lamp is shorted to ground
- A damaged fuse
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, check that the malfunction indicator lamp lights briefly and then goes out
- 2Check the instrument panel fuse. If it has blown, replace it once. If it blows again, use a multimeter to check the wire after it has no contact with ground
- 3With a diagnostic tool, activate the malfunction indicator lamp and check that it lights
- 4After the work, clear the code and check that the lamp works
