What does this fault code mean?
The blower fan motor has sent a signal to the central electronic module (CEM) that it is overheated, and the fault code is then stored. Overheating can be caused by the motor working hard, for example if the fan wheel is blocked or the motor is damaged. The fault is checked by running the fan, which shows whether it is still present.
Possible causes
- Damaged fan motor
- Blocked fan wheel
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and run the blower fan to see whether the fault returns
- 2Check that the fan wheel in the climate system turns freely and that nothing is in the way, by turning it by hand with the ignition off
- 3Check that the fan motor connector is secure and free from corrosion
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal and diagnostic wiring between the control module and the fan has no break and no contact with voltage supply
- 5Remedy what is found, and have a workshop replace the fan motor if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice3
- Blower fan does not run
- Blower fan runs at only one speed
- Air flow problem
What the fault can affect2
- Fan runs more slowly than normal
- Fan cannot start
