Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering column lock is checked by its control module. The CEM supplies power to that module and sends locking and unlocking commands, and at the start of each sequence the module reports the lock cylinder position to the CEM. The fault code is set when the module indicates that the status switch for the lock cylinder is faulty. It is part of a larger fault-tracing for the symptom that the starter motor does not turn.
Possible causes
- Faulty status switch for the lock cylinder
What you can do
- 1If the starter motor does not turn, troubleshoot the starting system first, for example the battery and fuses
- 2Function test: take the key out and check that the steering column lock locks and the wheel cannot be turned; insert the key and check that it releases
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the steering lock status in live data while locking and unlocking with the key, and check that the status changes
- 4If the steering column lock does not work as it should, a workshop should replace the control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- Starter motor does not operate
