What does this fault code mean?
CEM controls the supply voltage to the steering column lock control unit. The fault code is set when the supply wire is short-circuited to ground. The electronic steering lock then does not work, and the starter motor does not turn.
Possible causes
- Supply wire from the CEM to the steering column lock short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1If the starter motor does not turn, troubleshoot the starting system first, for example the battery and fuses
- 2Function test: take the key out and check that the steering lock locks and the wheel cannot be turned; insert the key and check that it releases
- 3With the ignition off, check the wires to the steering lock for chafing, pinching and loose connections
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the steering lock has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If the lock does not work as it should after the repair, a workshop should replace the control module
