What does this fault code mean?
The left-hand gas discharge lamp module (GDL) has registered problems lighting the left low beam, so the light may sometimes work and sometimes not. The cause can be a bulb that is faulty or nearing the end of its service life, or a broken signal wire. The bulb is checked first since it is the simplest part to replace.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the left-hand low beam lamp
- The left-hand low beam lamp is faulty
- The left-hand bulb is close to the end of its service life
What you can do
- 1Replace the bulb in the left low beam with a new one of the correct type and check that it sits properly in its holder
- 2Switch the ignition off and check that the connectors at the headlamp are clean, firmly fitted and not oxidised or damaged
- 3If the headlamp has been refitted recently, make sure the igniter inside the lamp housing sits properly
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the left low beam is not broken. If the fault keeps returning, have a workshop check the module and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The low beam does not work
- The low beam works at some times and not at others
