Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns the right xenon lamp, where the central electronic module (CEM) has found a fault in the actuator motor. The motor controls the beam range of the headlamp, and when it is not working the low or high beam can stay lit constantly and the road surface is not lit as it should be.
Possible causes
- The motor that moves the xenon lamp has seized
- Faulty or broken motor that moves the xenon lamp
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, switch between low and high beam: if the right lamp does not change, the fault is permanent; if it changes, the fault has occurred before
- 2Look for dirt, ice or damage after a collision that could block the movement of the right headlamp
- 3Check that the connector to the right headlamp is firmly seated and clean
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the actuator motor in the right headlamp and check that it moves evenly
- 5If the fault returns although the connector is in order, have a workshop replace the right headlamp housing
Symptoms you may notice4
- The low beam is constantly lit
- The high beam is constantly lit
- Road surface lighting does not work
- Headlamp aim is wrong or the height adjustment does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The shortest beam range is used
