What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent: the wiper relay registered a signal that was too low on an earlier occasion, but it is no longer present. The cause may be a defective relay, a relay that is not seated properly, a break in the wire, or a wire shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Defective relay, such as a damaged coil
- Relay not seated properly in its socket
- Break in the wire
- Wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and check whether it returns; an intermittent fault can be a temporary disturbance
- 2Check that the wiper relay is properly fitted in its socket
- 3Carefully remove the relay and check that the socket contacts are clean and free of oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the relay has no break and no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the wiper relay if it is defective
Symptoms you may notice1
- The windscreen wiper motor does not work
