The CEM monitors the headlamp washer motor and has registered too low a signal, or no signal at all, on the driver circuit for the relay. The headlamp washing then does not work, because the relay does not get the right control.
Possible causes
- Short to ground
- Open circuit in the cable
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, activate the headlamp washer and listen for the relay click: no activation means a permanent fault, activation means an earlier fault
- 2Check that the headlamp washer relay is correctly installed in its socket
- 3Look for chafing and a short to ground in the cable to the relay, especially where it runs close to the body
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the cable to the relay has no open circuit
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the cable and replace the relay if needed
