Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has registered a signal that is too high, or no signal, on the wire to the light ring around the ignition switch. The fault is normally not noticed by the driver, since the light ring only lights when the car is unlocked.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the wire to the light ring
- Short to supply voltage in the wire to the light ring
- Damaged light ring
What you can do
- 1Unlock the car and check that the interior lighting and the light ring around the ignition switch light up, since the fault can only be tested then
- 2Clear the code and check whether it returns while the interior lighting is active
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the light ring has no break and no contact with voltage
- 4Check the ground lead to the light ring for breaks and for a short to voltage
- 5If the signal wire is in order, have a workshop replace the antenna or the light ring
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
