What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named interior lighting, it applies to the lighting in the cup holder and ashtray. The central electronic module (CEM) supplies that lighting, and the fault code is stored when the circuit is shorted to earth.
Possible causes
- The cables are shorted to each other
- The supply cable has contact with earth (the body)
What you can do
- 1Check that the lamp is not broken and that its connector is secure
- 2With the ignition off, check the cables to the lighting for chafing, pinching and loose connections
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check whether the cables are shorted to each other or to earth
- 4Remedy any short circuits, reconnect the connectors and clear the fault code
- 5Switch the car on and check that the lamp lights. If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The lamp in the cup holder and ashtray does not light
What the fault can affect1
- If the fault has been present over many ignition cycles, the output is switched off permanently until the fault code is cleared
