What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the rheostat, which controls the instrument lighting, is too low when the central electronic module (CEM) receives it. The fault code is then stored and the instrument lighting does not work.
Possible causes
- Rheostat shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged light switch
- Blown fuse, so the function does not work
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the instrument lighting is intact in the car's fuse box, and replace it if it has blown
- 2Turn the dimmer control with the lights on and see whether the instrument lighting changes brightness
- 3With the ignition off, check the wiring and connectors to the light switch for chafing, breaks and corrosion
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check whether the rheostat wire is broken or has contact with earth
- 5Remedy the fault and clear the fault code. If it remains with an intact fuse and wiring, have a workshop replace the light switch
