What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) monitors the brake fluid level in the reservoir. The fault code is stored when the level is too low, or when the level sensor is loose or not connected correctly. Brake fluid is a safety matter, so the level should always be followed up.
Possible causes
- Low brake fluid level in the reservoir
- Level sensor loose or not connected correctly
What you can do
- 1Check the brake fluid level against the markings on the reservoir with the car on level ground and the ignition off
- 2If the level is low, look for leaks in the brake system and do not simply top it up without finding out why it dropped
- 3Press lightly on the level sensor connector to check that it is secure and free from corrosion
- 4Start the engine and check that the message clears and that the service brake symbol is not shown in the instrument panel
- 5Brakes are a safety system. Do not drive the car with a low brake fluid level or if a leak is suspected; have a workshop check the brake system
