CEM-AFFA
VOLVO
CEM-AFFA - Tire pressurement sensor. Low battery
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The battery voltage in one of the tyre pressure sensors is too low. The central electronic module (CEM) cannot tell which wheel it is, so the fault could be on any of the four. The sensor may struggle to send its values when its battery is weak.
Possible causes
- Low battery voltage in the tyre pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the remote receiver by locking and unlocking the car with the remote control. If that does not work, troubleshoot it first
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the frozen values for the fault code and note the sensor ID
- 3Have a workshop compare the sensor ID with the wheels and replace the sensor, since its battery is built in and is normally changed together with the sensor
- 4Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- Amber warning symbol and text message in the display
- The tyre pressure monitoring warning light and chime do not show the correct status
