What does this fault code mean?
When the key is read at start-up, the ignition lock control unit (SCU) hands the key data over to the central electronic module (CEM). The fault code is stored when the key ID cannot be approved or the information cannot be interpreted. The engine then does not start.
Possible causes
- The key ID cannot be validated
- The information from the remote key cannot be interpreted correctly
What you can do
- 1Try a different key that belongs to the car. If it works, a workshop can add the key that does not work
- 2If none of the keys work, the ignition lock control unit or the antenna unit is probably faulty, and a workshop needs to replace it
- 3Check that the key is not damaged, for example by moisture or a knock
- 4Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice4
- The starter motor does not turn over
- A message appears in the information display
- The engine does not start, or starts only unreliably
- The immobiliser warning light does not show the correct status
