What does this fault code mean?
Using encrypted communication, the central electronic module (CEM) checks that the steering column lock control unit (SCL) answers correctly during start attempts, and when the lock is commanded to lock or unlock. The fault code is stored when the reply from the steering column lock control unit is incorrect. Both the steering lock and starting can then be affected.
Possible causes
- Steering column lock control unit (SCL) is not programmed
- Internal fault in the steering column lock control unit (SCL)
What you can do
- 1The steering lock is part of the steering. Do not drive the car if it does not unlock or sticks; have a workshop check it first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 4If it returns, have a workshop program the steering column lock control unit. If it cannot be reprogrammed, it must be replaced and the new unit programmed
Symptoms you may notice4
- The starter motor does not turn over
- The steering column lock does not lock or does not unlock
