Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
The steering column lock control unit (SCL) sends messages although it should not be powered. The fault is caused by the power supply to the steering lock control unit being shorted to voltage, so it receives power when it should not. Both the steering lock and starting can be affected.
Possible causes
- Supply wire to the steering lock control unit shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1The steering lock is part of the steering. If it does not work as it should, do not drive the car until a workshop has checked it
- 2Check that the fuses for the steering lock are intact
- 3With the ignition on, check the wire to the steering lock for chafing, pinching and places where it may have touched a live wire
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check whether the wire to the steering lock has voltage. Voltage with the ignition off means a short to voltage
- 5Remedy any short circuit and clear the fault code. If the wiring is intact and the fault returns, have a workshop replace the control unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- The starter motor does not turn over
- A message appears in the information display
- The engine does not start, or starts only unreliably
- Amber warning symbol and text message in the display
