What does this fault code mean?
The steering column lock control unit (SCL) has detected an internal fault within itself and reports it to the central electronic module (CEM). The fault code is stored when the fault is found, and it can affect both the steering lock and starting. The fault may be permanent or temporary.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the steering column lock control unit (SCL)
What you can do
- 1The steering lock is part of the steering. If it does not work as it should, do not drive the car; have a workshop check it first
- 2Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 3If the fault is permanent or returns straight away, the steering lock control unit needs replacing, which a workshop does
- 4If the fault only shows up now and then, it may be a temporary start-up disturbance. Have a workshop assess it if it returns
Symptoms you may notice4
- The starter motor does not turn over
- A message appears in the information display
- The engine does not start, or starts only unreliably
- Amber warning symbol and text message in the display
