CEM-B102921 - Accelerator Pedal Sensor. General Signal Failures. Signal too low
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) monitors the voltage on the signal wire from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The fault code is stored when the signal is too low, which here is because the signal wire is shorted to earth or the sensor is damaged. The engine may then feel sluggish.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Do not drive the car if the accelerator pedal does not respond. Stop somewhere safe and contact a workshop
- 2Check that the fuses for the engine control are intact
- 3With the ignition on, check the wires to the accelerator pedal sensor for chafing, pinching and loose connections
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire has contact with earth (the body)
- 5Remedy the short circuit if it is found and clear the fault code. If the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the accelerator pedal sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine feels sluggish
- The accelerator pedal gives no response
