What does this fault code mean?
The fault is in the left main headlamp control unit (LHCU), which drives the headlamp motors. The fault code is stored when the unit detects an internal fault. Side and height adjustment and automatic high beam may then be affected.
Possible causes
- Faults in external or internal connections between the parts of the left main headlamp control unit
- Damaged LIN node in the left main headlamp control unit
- Damaged left main headlamp control unit (LHCU)
What you can do
- 1Check the connections and wiring to the left headlamp for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation, and gently move them with the ignition on
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, see whether the side adjustment changes in live data when you turn the steering wheel from one end stop to the other
- 3Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 4If no fault is found in the wiring, the headlamp may need replacing. Have a workshop do that and adjust the headlamp afterwards
Symptoms you may notice4
- Side adjustment of the headlamp does not follow the steering wheel correctly, or does not work
- Height adjustment of the headlamp is wrong or does not work
- A message appears in the information display
- Main beam with automatic high beam control does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The light range is used in a fixed setting
- Side adjustment freezes in the straight-ahead position
