CEM-B104322 - Front Axle Sensor. General Signal Failures. Signal too high
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) reads the front axle level sensor, which measures the height at the front of the car and is used to adjust the headlights. The signal from the sensor is too high compared with the supply voltage, so the CEM cannot read the height correctly and the headlight setting is controlled by the wrong value.
Possible causes
- The signal cable to the sensor is shorted to battery voltage
- The ground lead to the sensor is broken or has poor contact
- The sensor itself is damaged
- Oxidized or loose connections at the sensor connector
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code, clear it and carry out a short test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the headlight level control are intact
- 3Check that the connector at the front axle sensor is fully engaged and not corroded, and that the cable is not chafed or pinched
- 4Use a multimeter (ignition on, connector unplugged) to check that the signal wire is not connected to battery voltage
- 5With a diagnostic tool, watch the sensor value in live data as the front is pressed down and released: it should change smoothly
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and the sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Headlight side adjustment does not follow the steering wheel
- Headlight height adjustment does not work or is set wrongly
What the fault can affect2
- The headlight beam stays at a fixed level instead of being adjusted
- Side adjustment stays fixed straight ahead
