What does this fault code mean?
The CEM runs the washer pump by switching one of two pump relays in the passenger compartment fuse box, using a ground connection on the control line. The fault shows that the control line to the relay reads low although rear window washing is not activated, or that the CEM has found a break in the line.
Possible causes
- The control line between the CEM and the relay has a break
- The control line between the CEM and the relay is shorted to ground
- Damaged relay
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code, clear it and run the rear window washer to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the washer pumps are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the rear washer pump with the tool and listen for the pump to start
- 4Use a multimeter (ignition off, connectors unplugged) to check that the signal wire between the CEM and the relay has no break and no connection to ground
- 5Check that the connectors in the passenger compartment fuse box are fully engaged and clean
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the relay and the wiring
