CEM-B106C11 - Daytime Running Light. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) supplies the daytime running lights with power and monitors the current draw in the circuit. The fault shows that the supply voltage to the lights is too low, which can be caused by a short to ground in the circuit between the CEM and the lights. Because the front daytime running and parking lights are combined, the parking lights may also stop working.
Possible causes
- The supply wire to the daytime running lights is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code, clear it and check whether it returns when the car is driven with the daytime running lights on
- 2Check that the fuses for the daytime running lights are intact
- 3Check that the connectors at the front lights are fully engaged and not corroded, and that the cable is not chafed or damp
- 4Use a multimeter (ignition off, connector unplugged) to check that the supply wire has no connection to ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the daytime running lights with the tool and check that both the daytime and parking lights come on
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and the lights
Symptoms you may notice2
- The daytime running lights do not work
- Parking lights or side marker lights do not work
What the fault can affect1
- The daytime running light output is switched off during the operating cycle in which the fault is detected
