What does this fault code mean?

The central electronic module (CEM) monitors the two switches in the start button, which show whether the button is pressed. The fault shows that both switches have been active for too long, which suggests the start button is stuck pressed or a switch is damaged. The fault is checked when the start button is pressed.

    Possible causes

    • The start button has stuck in the pressed position
    • The start button was held pressed for too long
    • Damaged switch
    • Internal fault in the ignition lock control module (SCU)
    • Internal fault in the antenna unit for the start lock (IAU)

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the start button is not stuck in the pressed position and returns fully when released
    2. 2Remove the key from the ignition lock (if it is in) and check that the start button feels normal when pressed and released
    3. 3Check that the fuses are intact
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the start button switches in live data and check that both change to on when the button is pressed and to off when released
    5. 5Use a multimeter (ignition off, connectors unplugged) to check that the signal wires to the start button are not shorted to ground or voltage
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the start button and the ignition lock control module

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • The engine does not start
    • The engine cannot be switched off
    • The steering lock does not work
    • Warning symbol and text message in the display
