Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) supplies the number plate lighting and monitors the output. The fault shows that the signal from the output is too high, which can be caused by a short to voltage or a break in the wiring.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection in the connections
- Break in the signal wire
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- The supply wire is shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and check whether it returns when the number plate light is switched on
- 2Check that the fuse for the number plate lighting is intact
- 3Check that the connectors at the lamp are fully engaged and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter (ignition off, connector unplugged) to check that the wire is not at battery voltage and has no break
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the number plate lighting with the tool and check whether it comes on
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and the lamp
Symptoms you may notice1
- The number plate lighting does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The function is switched off permanently after several operating cycles in which the fault was detected
- Clearing the fault codes resets the output
