What does this fault code mean?
The CEM talks to the rain sensor, which has an integrated light sensor that controls the dipped beam when the light switch is in auto mode. The fault shows that the light sensor inside the rain sensor has an internal fault.
Possible causes
- Damaged rain sensor
- The rain sensor sits loose against the windscreen
- Crack in the windscreen near the rain sensor
- Stone chip in the windscreen near the rain sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code, clear it and check whether it returns when you drive with the light switch in auto mode
- 2Check that the rain sensor is fitted firmly to the glass and makes good contact with both the glass and its cushion
- 3Look for cracks or stone chips in the glass near the rain sensor, as these can affect the sensor
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the light value from the rain sensor in live data while you move between light and dark and check that it changes
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the rain sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic dipped beam control does not work
What the fault can affect1
