What does this fault code mean?
The CEM communicates with the rain sensor. The fault shows that the rain sensor has not been able to adapt itself automatically to the windscreen, and this applies when it is warm outside.
Possible causes
- Damaged rain sensor
- The rain sensor is not firmly attached to the glass
- Crack in the glass near the rain sensor
- Stone chip in the glass near the rain sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code and check whether it returns when it is warm outside and the rain sensor is switched on
- 2Check that the rain sensor is firmly attached to the glass
- 3Look for cracks or stone chips in the glass near the rain sensor
- 4Clean the glass near the rain sensor so that it is free from dirt and film
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the rain sensor

- If the fault occurs a while after the rain sensor is activated, the wipers go to top speed
