What does this fault code mean?
The CEM communicates with the rain sensor over the LIN bus. The fault shows that the messages from the rain sensor are incorrect, so the automatic wiper function cannot rely on the sensor's values.
Possible causes
- Damaged rain sensor
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection in connectors and joints
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the code, clear it and check whether it returns when you drive with the rain sensor active
- 2Check that the connector to the rain sensor is fully engaged and not corroded
- 3Check that the fuses for the windscreen wipers are intact
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the rain sensor values in live data and check that they change when you splash water on the glass by the sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the rain sensor and the LIN connection
