What does this fault code mean?
Once the remote key has been put into the ignition lock, the ignition lock control module tries to identify the key by reading its ID from the transponder. When that read-out fails to finish in time, the module reports that the key does not respond and the code is stored. The fault shows up as the starter motor not working and a message in the text display.
Possible causes
- The remote key does not respond to the control module's request
- Another remote key or transponder nearby disturbs the communication
- Something, for example a finger, has been inserted into the starter module
What you can do
- 1Check that no other key or transponder is near the ignition lock when you start, for example another key bunch
- 2Check that nothing has been inserted into the starter module
- 3Try starting with another key that belongs to the car. If it works, the key that does not respond is probably the one at fault
- 4If the fault follows one key: have a workshop reprogram that key
- 5If none of the keys work: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition lock control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Starter motor does not operate
- Message in the text display
