What does this fault code mean?
On cars with xenon dipped beams, the CEM controls the front side marker lights through a common output. The code is stored when the signal from the output is too high. Causes can be poor contact in the connections, an open circuit in the signal cable, or a short circuit to supply voltage. The side marker lights then do not work.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, oxidation or looseness in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- The signal cable is short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check that the connections to the side marker lights are secure and not oxidised
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the supply cable to the side marker lights has voltage when the lights are switched off
- 4Look for chafing and pinch damage on the signal cable from the control module to the lamps
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module output and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice3
- Side marker lights or position lights do not work
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The bulb failure warning in the instruments comes on or behaves abnormally
