Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM controls the output signal to the relay for the 15 feed. The code is stored when the output to the relay coil has an open circuit or is short-circuited to ground. The fault can cause the battery to discharge and the engine not to start.
Possible causes
- The cable is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the cable
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check the battery's charge level and that the terminal connections are tight
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the cable to the 15 feed relay
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the relay coil has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the relay coil has no break in it
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the relay and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- Battery discharges
- Engine does not start
- Engine does not start, either sometimes or always
- The battery is flat or has low voltage
What the fault can affect2
- The function switches off permanently after 100 driving cycles in which the fault was detected
- Clearing the fault codes resets the output
