Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
On some markets, diesel cars have an electric additional heater (PTC element), and the CEM controls its power draw through an output. The code is stored when the signal from the output is too high. Causes can be poor contact in the connections, an open circuit or a short to ground in the signal cable, a temporary internal fault in the PTC element, or a damaged PTC element.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, oxidation or looseness in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground
- Temporary internal fault in the PTC element, caused by temporarily incorrect signals
- Damaged PTC element
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check that the connectors in the cable to the additional heater are secure and not oxidised
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the cable to the additional heater
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the additional heater has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the additional heater and check that the air becomes warmer
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the PTC element and the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Heating in the front section is not warm enough
- Heating in the front section comes on slowly
- Heating in the rear section is not warm enough
- Heater does not work
- Heating in the rear section comes on slowly
