CEM-B10EA14 - Positive temperature coefficient heater. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground or open
System

Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsS80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The additional heater (PTC element) is fitted to diesel cars in some markets and is controlled by the CEM through an output. The code is stored when the signal from the output is too low, for example when no signal is present at all. Cabin heating then becomes poor, because the additional heater is not getting the control it needs.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal cable
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check that the connectors in the cable to the additional heater are secure and clean
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the signal cable
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable has no contact with ground (the body) and is not broken
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the additional heater and check that the air becomes warmer
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the PTC element and the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the cabin
- Heater does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The function switches off permanently after 100 driving cycles in which the fault has been detected
- Clearing the fault codes resets the output
