Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM controls the relay coil output for the comfort relay. The code is stored when the signal from that output is too low. The code never appears on its own, so start with the other CEM codes. The fault shows up as poor airflow, no recirculation and poor air quality in the cabin, and the battery may drain.
Possible causes
- Damaged relay
- Relay driver circuit short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the relay coil
- Break in the signal cable to the relay driver circuit
What you can do
- 1Start with the other fault codes in the CEM, since this code never appears on its own
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the wiring to the relay and check that the connectors are secure and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the relay coil has no contact with ground (the body) and is not broken
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the relay and listen for it to click
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the relay and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- Air flow does not work as it should
- No air recirculation
- Poor air quality in the cabin
- The battery discharges
What the fault can affect2
- After 100 driving cycles with the fault, the function switches off permanently
- Clearing the fault codes resets the output
