Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM controls locking and unlocking of the door lock motors and learns their status from switches in the lock units. The code is stored when the passenger door lock motor has not reached its locked or unlocked position after two attempts. Central locking then does not work for the passenger door. The fault only needs following up if central locking really gives you trouble.
Possible causes
- Damaged switch that reports the lock motor status
- The lock motor is stuck
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes in the driver and passenger door modules (DDM and PDM) before going further
- 2Lock and unlock the car with the remote or the central locking button. Pause between attempts, as the lock motors can overheat and stop for a while
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that the lock status for the passenger door changes when the door is locked and unlocked
- 4Check that the passenger door lock moves freely and is not stiff or blocked by dirt or mechanical resistance
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the wiring and replace the lock unit if needed, since the door trim has to come off
Symptoms you may notice2
- Passenger door does not lock or unlock with the central locking
- Central locking does not work
