CEM-B111E14 - Boot/Trunk lamps. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground or open
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM powers the luggage compartment lighting and switches it on by grounding an output. The code is stored when that output is too high, has an open circuit or sits at a constant low voltage. If the light stays on with the tailgate closed, this can point to a short circuit to ground in the circuit.
Possible causes
- The output to the luggage compartment lighting is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the circuit for the luggage compartment lighting
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Open and close the tailgate and check that the light comes on and goes off as it should
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the wiring to the luggage compartment light
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the light has no contact with ground (the body) and is not broken
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the luggage compartment lighting and check that it lights
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module output and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- Luggage compartment lighting does not work
- Luggage compartment lighting stays on with the tailgate closed
