CEM-B112E11 - Twilight sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM receives information about the light conditions from the twilight sensor and uses it for the brightness of the symbols and instrument lighting. The code is stored when the signal cable from the sensor is short-circuited to ground or when the sensor does not operate. The instrument lighting then does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground
- The twilight sensor does not operate
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check that the connector to the twilight sensor is secure and clean
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the signal cable to the twilight sensor
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the twilight sensor value in live data and check that it changes when the light changes
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- Instrument lighting does not work
