CEM-B112E13 - Twilight sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit open
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM receives information about the light conditions from the twilight sensor to control the brightness of the symbols and instrument lighting. The code is stored when the ground lead to the sensor has a break or when the signal cable has contact with voltage. The instrument lighting then does not work, and the headlight vertical adjustment may be wrong.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal ground cable
- The signal cable has contact with supply voltage
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check that the connections to the twilight sensor are secure and not oxidised
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the ground and signal cables to the twilight sensor
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the ground cable to the sensor is not broken, for example by checking continuity between two contact points
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- Instrument lighting does not work
- Headlight vertical adjustment does not follow the steering wheel angle correctly or does not work
