What does this fault code mean?
The CEM powers the emergency brake light straight from an output. The code is stored when the supply cable has a break or is shorted to ground. The brake lights then do not light when the pedal is pressed, and a message may appear in the text window.
Possible causes
- The supply cable is short-circuited to ground
- Break in the supply cable
What you can do
- 1Check that the brake lights work by having someone watch them while you press the brake. Brake lights matter for road safety, so fix the fault promptly
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Look for chafing and pinch damage on the supply cable to the emergency brake light
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply cable has no contact with ground (the body) and is not broken
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the wiring and the control module output
