What does this fault code mean?
The CEM talks to the windscreen wiper control module (WMM) across a shared LIN bus. The code is stored when a message from the wiper on that bus arrives incorrect. The windscreen wiper then does not work.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, oxidation or looseness in the connectors or connections
- Damaged wiper motor module (WMM)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the CEM has other fault codes ending in 86 or 88 and deal with those first, since they point to the LIN bus
- 2Check that the connectors to the wiper control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the wiper status in live data and check that it responds
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the LIN bus and replace the control module if needed
