System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The Central Electronic Module (CEM) supplies the illumination in the hazard light switch. The fault is stored when the signal from the output is too high, for example from a short circuit to battery voltage or an open circuit in the signal wire. In some cases the code is stored for an unknown reason without a physical fault, and if the fault finding finds nothing, the code can be cleared.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to battery voltage in the signal wire to the illumination
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the illumination
- The fault code can be set incorrectly for an unknown reason
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Clear the fault code and see whether it returns after a new driving cycle
- 3Check that the connector at the switch is secure and not corroded, and that the wire has no chafing or pinch damage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not short-circuited to battery voltage or open between the control module and the switch
- 5If the fault remains despite these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Button illumination in the hazard light switch does not work
- No clear symptoms for the driver beyond this
What the fault can affect2
- The illumination switches off permanently after 100 driving cycles in which the fault was detected
- Erasing the fault codes resets the output
