CEM-B114811 - Right front fog lamps. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The Central Electronic Module (CEM) monitors the voltage to the right front fog lamp. When the output gives too low a voltage while the fog lamp is switched on, the fault is stored. The cause is either increased contact resistance in the connections or a signal wire that is short-circuited to earth.
Possible causes
- Increased contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connections to the right fog lamp
- The signal wire to the right fog lamp is short-circuited to earth
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Switch on the fog lamps and check whether the right lamp lights, then clear the code and road test
- 3Inspect the connectors at the lamp and at the control module, and clean or press in any that are loose or oxidised
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with earth (the body) with the connectors disconnected
- 5If the fault returns despite these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- Right front fog lamp does not light
What the fault can affect3
- The output switches off during the driving cycle in which the fault is detected
- It is switched off permanently after 100 driving cycles if the fault remains
- A new driving cycle or erasing the fault codes resets the output
