Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV70 (2008–), XC70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The Central Electronic Module (CEM) controls locking and unlocking of the central locking motors and receives feedback from switches in the lock units on whether each motor has reached its position. The fault is stored when the tailgate lock motor does not reach its locked or unlocked position.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short circuit in the signal wire between the lock motor and the CEM
- Damaged lock motor in the tailgate
- Open circuit or short circuit in the signal wire to the fuel filler flap lock motor
What you can do
- 1Operate the central locking several times with the remote or the button on the door, and check that the tailgate locks and unlocks
- 2Do not repeat locking too many times in a row, as the lock motors can get hot and stop working temporarily
- 3Check that the tailgate lock moves freely by hand and does not stick, and listen whether the lock unit is activated twice at each lock, since it should only be activated once
- 4Remove the panel in the luggage compartment and check the wires to the tailgate lock unit for loose connections, chafing and short circuits to voltage or earth
- 5If the fault remains and nothing else is found, the lock unit is probably faulty: have a workshop replace the tailgate lock unit
Symptoms you may notice1
