What does this fault code mean?
The Central Electronic Module (CEM) shares a LIN bus with the start lock antenna unit (IAU) and the steering column lock control module (SCL). The fault is stored when messages sent on the bus become faulty.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connector terminals and connections
- Damaged start lock antenna unit (IAU)
- Damaged steering column lock control module (SCL)
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is charged and that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connectors at the start lock and the steering lock: oxidised or loose connectors should be cleaned and pressed in
- 3Check the LIN wire between the start lock and the steering lock for chafing, pinch damage and loose connectors
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire is not short-circuited to earth or battery voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the start lock antenna unit and the steering lock
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine does not start, or the starter does not turn over
- When starting is attempted there is either a clicking sound or no sound at all
- The steering lock does not work
- The fault may be constant or come and go
