CEM-B11D188 - LIN Bus "C". Bus Signal / Message Failures. Bus off
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM shares the LIN bus with the start lock antenna (IAU) and the steering column lock module (SCL). The fault is stored when messages from the CEM never reach the bus, so the bus has effectively stopped working.
Possible causes
- The LIN bus is short-circuited to voltage or earth
- Damaged start lock antenna unit (IAU)
- Damaged steering column lock control module (SCL)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has sufficient voltage
- 2Check the LIN wire for chafing, pinch damage and places where it may have touched voltage or earth
- 3Disconnect the connector at the start lock antenna unit and see whether the fault clears, which would point to that unit
- 4If no cause is found in the wiring, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the steering lock and the antenna unit
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine does not start, or the starter does not turn over
- When starting is attempted there is either a clicking sound or no sound at all
- The steering lock does not work
