CEM-B11DB96 - Battery Monitoring Module. Component Failures. Component internal failure
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The battery monitoring sensor (BMS) has detected a hardware fault within itself, which the CEM detects while the engine is running. The sensor measures the battery voltage, current and temperature and is used to control alternator charging, so the fault is in the sensor rather than in the wiring.
Possible causes
- Damaged battery monitoring sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the connectors at the sensor are secure and not corroded
- 3Clear the fault code and start the engine: if it returns, the fault remains in the sensor
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check whether the sensor shows battery voltage and current values in live data
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop replace the battery monitoring sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The automatic start/stop function does not work while driving or at idle
- A red warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
- The charging warning lamp does not work as it should
