CEM-B130E11 - Left Rear Fog Lamp. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM supplies the left rear fog lamp directly from an output. The fault is stored when the signal from the output is too low, and the cause is a supply wire short-circuited to earth, poor contact, or a signal wire short-circuited to earth. The fault is checked with the fog lamp switched on.
Possible causes
- The supply wire is short-circuited to earth
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connections
- The signal wire is short-circuited to earth
What you can do
- 1Start by checking that the fuses for the fog lamps are intact
- 2Switch on the rear fog lamps and see whether the left lamp lights, then clear the fault code and road test
- 3Check the connectors at the left lamp and at the CEM: loose or oxidised connectors should be cleaned and pressed in
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire has no contact with earth (the body) with the connectors disconnected
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment fault-trace the control module and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The left rear fog lamp does not light
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect3
- The output switches off during the driving cycle in which the fault is detected
- If the fault remains, the output is switched off permanently after 100 driving cycles where the fault was detected
- Erasing the fault codes and starting a new driving cycle resets the output
