CEM-B1A5515 - Crash record output. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery or open
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM sends the crash signal to the engine control module (ECM) and checks the signal at the output. The fault is stored when the signal is too high, which is caused by the signal wire being short-circuited to voltage, or by a break or poor contact in the wire. The fault can stop the engine from starting.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connectors in the signal wire between the CEM and the engine control module: loose or oxidised connectors should be cleaned and pressed in
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is neither short-circuited to battery voltage nor broken, with the connectors disconnected
- 4Do not work on the crash signal wiring yourself, as it belongs to the airbag system: have a workshop check it
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start, or the starter does not turn over, sometimes or always
- No clicking sound when starting is attempted
What the fault can affect1
- The function switches off permanently after 100 driving cycles where the fault was detected
