VOLVO
CEM-B1A6311 - Right Solar Sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM receives the signal from the right solar sensor, which measures how much sunlight reaches the car and is used by the climate control. The fault is stored when the signal from the sensor is too low, which is caused by the signal being short-circuited to earth. The control module must be powered for the test to run.
Possible causes
- The signal from the right solar sensor is short-circuited to earth
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the climate control are intact
- 2Check that the solar sensor is not covered, damaged or dirty
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data that the solar sensor value changes when you cover and uncover it
- 4Check the connector at the solar sensor and the wiring for chafing and loose connections
- 5With the connectors disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with earth
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the solar sensor and the control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The air conditioning does not cool enough in the front part of the cabin
- The climate control does not work as it should
- The cabin temperature does not drop when the sun is shining strongly
